Community
WebLink is an online portal (an entry point to resources on the
World Wide Web) that provides information on organizations, training,
and funding opportunities, as well as statistical data to the
nonprofit community.
The purpose
is to provide efficient and effective online access to available
local nonprofit resources.
One of the
first portals of its kind in the nation, it links ongoing local
projects (and their respective Web sites) to establish a network
of available resources and information. Users are directed directly
to the information they need, enabling them to compare resources
quickly without having to navigate many different web sites.
A unique online
resource designed to serve the regions nonprofit community
and establish a more productive nonprofit environment; Community
WebLink maximizes the access and visibility of available information
and resources to the nonprofit community. Community WebLink is
organized by function based on how people work, rather than administratively
by organization name. [Read

Our
Rationale
The dissemination
of knowledge about available resources, data or services among the
nonprofit communities traditionally depends on word of mouth, trial
and error or sporadic marketing efforts. The lack of connection
among existing service organizations, projects and resources limits
their efficiency, impact and results and has evolved into a problem
in urban areas.
In 2000, to
address this problem in New Orleans, community leaders began planning
how to create a virtual connection among these resources,
which led to the creation of Community WebLink.
